This travelogue written by Thi.Janakiraman and Chitti was first published in 1971. With their friends, authors made two trips through the banks of Cauvery in Karnataka and Tamil Nadu. Book takes us through the hills, temples, people and interesting conversations within the group during the course of the trip.
50 years later, most of the places mentioned in the book has become popular tourist attractions. In Karnataka, author gives vivid description on the route of Kaveri, its natural attractions and community living along the banks. Book also covers the historic places and their interesting conversations about it.
Entering Tamil Nadu, they try taking the route taken by Kannagi and Kovalan from Poompuhar. Lot of references to tamil literature, details on the places, description of irrigation systems are delight to read about. They talk about lot many people in Tanjore, Trichy and interiors of TN who made significant contribution to the art and literature.
Book gave lot of places to visit, earmarked for years to come. And Kaveri has become closer than just a river we cross in every trip. Kaveri itself would be taking years to cover if one would want to cover all of its places of importance. At the least dams, confluences, hills, age old temples and definitely the Puhar are to be visited.
