நூறு நிலங்களின் மலை – Book

I had this book in my reading list for some time. After last trip, immediately picked up this book. Reading books about travelling and places gives some indirect experience of places through the author’s eyes. It takes me through virtual travelling to beautiful places during the mundane days.

This book by writer Jeyamohan is his 10 days experience through the Himalayas. This is the first of his travel books am reading and it was a deep read as with any of his other books. Nothing more than few facts about Himalayas and its enormity was known to me before this book. This travelogue literally takes through the rough roads, different terrains including deserts, lakes, mountains from Kashmir to Manali through Kargil, Leh.

Author takes us through the Buddhist monasteries and its historical aspects too. As author says, the mountain ranges, its silence and Buddhism all go hand in hand. We can internalize this as we read through the book. I think along with Silence/peace, Himalayas would also be tied to my memory when ever i see Buddha hereafter.

While most of the places/routes travelled by the author may not be travelable by a ordinary travelers like us, this book kindles the interest to travel in Himalayas at least once in life time. And this book made me look for some more travelogues in Tamil and JM has given some valuable suggestions here.
